Oil industry leader Petron Corporation has offered a P1-million incentive for each gold earned by the Philippine Taekwondo team at the Beijing Olympics. This announcement was made by Petron vice-president for marketing Jose K. Campos, Jr., during the official send-off held at Petron headquarters last July 28.

Tshomlee Go and Antoinette Rivero are the two Philippine bets in the highly competitive Taekwondo competitions at the Beijing Olympics. Go, a 27-year old gold medalist in the 2007 SEA Games, is thirsty for his first taste of gold in the Olympics. “Of course, we want to win the gold,” he mentions, “but we know the hard work and the sacrifices it will entail.” His partner and fellow jin, Antoinette Rivero, is as equally driven. After a strong showing in the last World Taekwondo competition, Rivero, a 20-year old freshman at the Ateneo de Manila University, is “expecting it to be more intense this time around.” Both Go and Rivero are optimistic about their chances for the much-coveted gold in Beijing.
Petron has supported the Philippine Taekwondo Association for the past nine years. On top of their corporate sponsorship for the team, Petron is offering a P1-million incentive to the taekwondo Olympians if they win the gold. A silver medal will earn P600,000 while a bronze medal is worth P300,000.
